NEW DELHI: MG Motor is likely to drive in mid-sized SUV on the Indian roads by the end of 2021, India head Rajeev Chaba confirmed.
The SUV is likely to lock horns against the rivals like Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The company expects the SUV to be a volume generator for the company. It aims to grow by around 70% this year with this new launch and improved COVID situation.

The model will be the petrol iteration of the company’s latest electric car, MG ZS. It is likely to be one level under the MG Hector plus. The car was showcased at an auto expo.
It is expected that the design and styling of the Astor will be similar to its electric counterpart. Though, a few changes would be introduced to distinguish it from its sibling.
The MG Astor has been undergoing testing in India for a while and has been spotted several times.
Rajeev Chaba, MG Motor India President and Managing Director said that the SUV launch got delayed by a few weeks due to the second wave of Covid-19.

The automaker targets to move ahead in the direction of fully utilising its Halol-based (Gujarat) manufacturing facility and to muster the sales with the upcoming SUV. The Halol facility has an installed capacity to roll out about one lakh cars per annum.
“We need to look at full utilisation of the Halol facility. Due to the pandemic, our volumes have gone down so our first priority is that the Halol plant is fully utilised in terms of capacity and profitability, Chaba added.
The SUV segment in India is getting a robust increase at 29% passenger vehicle sales in 2020 as compared to 13.5% in 2015.
